2.     Purdue Japan Disaster Relief

Purdue Japan Disaster Relief

The Japan Student Association and Purdue Student Government are coordinating a campus-wide fundraising effort to support the disaster relief effort in Japan.  Japan Student Association will be taking the lead with this campus wide effort.  An account has been established for the Purdue Japan Disaster Relief.  The proceeds will go to the Red Cross - Japan Relief fund.  All donations from individuals at Purdue and from fundraising events will be deposited into this account.  Identifying one agency for donations and setting up one account with the Business Office for Student Organizations streamlines the process and makes it easier to mobilize many student organizations with much less paperwork and in much less time.

The goal will be to engage as many student organizations as we can to make it easy for students, faculty and staff to give.  We also want to encourage student organizations to create their own fundraisers for the Purdue Japan Disaster Relief effort. Here is how you can be a part of this major initiative.

  • Student organization may donate immediately up to $100 from their account to the relief effort.  Fill out a Check Request Form and transfer $100 to “Purdue Japan Disaster Relief.”  Have your treasurer and president sign the form and turn it into BOSO.
  • Create your own fundraiser.  Once you have an idea for a fundraiser, fill out an Event Planning Form for the event.  In the upper left hand corner in the “charity box” write “Purdue Japan Disaster Relief.”  When the event is done, deposit all money into the Purdue Japan Disaster Relief account.
  • Direct all donations from students, faculty and staff to the PSG office, Stewart room G6 or the collection tables
  • Japan Student Association will need volunteers to staff the collection tables (dates, times, places TBD) and at events where donations will be collected

The Japan Student Association will be coordinating collection sites across campus very soon.  In the meantime, anyone wishing to donate may bring donations to the Student Activities & Organizations office or the Purdue Student Government office.  Any student or student organization wishing to staff a table at one of the collection sites should email, call or stop by the SAO office.

Detailed information on all Purdue Japan Relief Fund activities, collection sites, and news will be posted on Purdue's website and the GetInvolved site.  Please consider engaging your organization in the important fundraising effort and show the students from and the people of Japan.

Project Move Out is a program that allows students to donate items that they might normally throw away at the end of the year.  As you move out of your residence hall, please donate items you no longer want, such as food, clothes, shoes, furniture, books, dishes, linens, cleaning supplies, electronics, laundry soap, winter coats, or luggage. These items are given to clients from local non-profit agencies.  Help reduce the trash placed in the dumpster and at the same time help families in need in the community.  Donated items may be delivered to the Purdue Armory (University Street between 3rd and 4th Streets) on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, and on Sunday, May 8th between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

12.             Annual Student Leaders Retreat

Place: Camp Tecumseh, Brookston, Indiana
Fee: $20 registration fee (paid after being accepted)
Registration: GetInvolved on the Student Leaders Retreat (SLR) page

The program will include valuable leadership/organization skills, workshops, networking sessions, a keynote, organization meetings, a town meeting for sharing information and programs, and a panel of campus administrators to give updates and answer questions.  It is our hope that this event will give you the tools you need to build coalitions with your student leader colleagues, and build a better community at Purdue.  Participants will also participate in the Boiler Up Community Action Day providing participants an opportunity to bond with incoming freshman and provide service to the community.

The retreat will be most beneficial to student officers who are involved in undergraduate student organizations that plan campus-wide programs, provide diversity education programs, govern a large segment of the student population, or produce a campus publication.
